Pupil referral units
A management system that fits a pupil referral unit
Pupils arrive with complex histories and leave when they’re ready. PupilDB keeps their records, welfare needs and attendance clear from the first day.
Sound familiar?
The problems we hear most
-
Big systems don’t fit
A mainstream MIS is built for hundreds of pupils in fixed classes, not small, changing groups.
-
Welfare detail must be to hand
Staff need medical needs, allergies, LAC status and agency involvement the moment something happens.
-
Attendance must stand up
Attendance is scrutinised closely. Every absence needs a reason and a note.
How PupilDB helps
Built for the way you work
-
Back to school, and staying there
Targets and six-weekly reviews for every placement, then where each pupil went next and whether the move lasted.
-
Schools kept informed
A short report on each pupil’s day, checked by a lead and emailed to their school before home time.
-
Welfare at a glance
Allergies in red, medical notes, GP, parents and LAC status in one quick view.
-
Every absence explained
Absence reasons from your own list, with notes, and reminders for unfinished registers.
-
Reports on demand
Attendance by month, SEN/ALN, medical and referral reports whenever you’re asked.
-
Small-group timetables
Build lessons around pupils, not the other way round.
-
Behaviour and use of force
Incidents, rewards and points with weekly trends, and detailed restraint and seclusion records.
-
Safeguarding with your DSL
Concerns raised by any staff, managed by the DSL, with a log of who has looked at each one.
Placement outcomes
How many pupils went back to school, and stayed?
Record where each pupil goes when their placement ends, and follow up about six months later. The outcomes report brings it together for each academic year.
- Percentage back in mainstream
- Still there at the six-month follow-up
- Every destination, and each commissioner’s results
Questions
Common questions
Can we track reintegration?
Yes. When a placement ends, record whether the pupil returned to their school, moved to a new school, special school, college or elsewhere. A follow-up about six months later records whether the move lasted, and the outcomes report brings it together by academic year.
Does PupilDB produce the school census?
Not yet. Statutory returns such as the school census are on our roadmap for mainstream schools. Tell us what your unit must submit and we’ll talk you through what PupilDB covers today.
